Voices of the Dead
Voices of the Dead: A History of the People of Woodchurch in the Eighteenth Century
Josie Mackie
Based on more than 150 wills left by the inhabitants of Woodchurch between 1700 and 1856 - and also making use of the many other primary sources for the parish - with Voices of The Dead local historian Josie Mackie has written a comprehensive social history of Woodchurch in the 18th century.
This 76-page, A4 booklet includes chapters on The Land, The People, Occupations, Everyday Life, Clothing and Furniture, The Poor, Illness and Death and Links with Other Villages and Towns. It also lists details of people and places mentioned in all the wills together with reference numbers to enable copies to be ordered easily from local and national archive repositories. Also included is a guide to 'Who Lived Where' listing 21 properties. The book is illustrated with documents, pictures, sketch maps and full-colour reproductions of the map of the Woodchurch Place Estate of 1729, currently on display at the Village Life Museum.
